Once your return has been accepted (or mailed), it is no longer possible to change your bank account for direct deposit.
If you haven't filed yet, you can still update your bank account information for direct deposit at no extra cost. Simply log into your account, edit your details, and click "NEXT" until the end to generate the updated documents.
If the bank account you provided is closed or invalid, the government will send you a refund check by mail.
If the account you entered belongs to someone else, don’t worry—most banks will not deposit tax refunds into accounts where the names don’t match.
The best way to track your federal refund is by calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
