If you receive a corrected Form W-2 after your return is filed, you may need to file an amended tax return.
In general, you should file an amended return if you need to provide more or new information that affects your tax calculations. This includes amending you residency or filing status, the number of dependents, correcting total income, credits or deductions claimed or not on the original return.
Don’t file an amended return to fix math errors or because you forgot to include a required form or schedule - the IRS will make the correction itself and/or will mail a request to you for the missing form or schedule, if needed. This also applies if you mistook your ITIN/SSN.
