Form 1099-G reports certain governmental payments, such as a State refund you received for a previous year.
In Sprintax, you are offered two ways to report your 1099-G form:
1. You can report your 1099-G form on Step 3 Let's talk money, sub-step Income documents.
The details you need to fill out the 1099-G are:
• Payer's name/Address (The address is on the very up-left corner of your form, Department of Taxation and below);
• box 2 - State or local income tax refunds, credits or offsets - The amount from your 1099-G form;
• box 10 - State - the state you live in;
• box 10b - State identification no. - 0.
2. You can report your 1099-G on Step 3 Let's talk money, sub-step Additional tax info.
Reporting your 1099-G this way is quicker and easier. Navigate towards the 'Additional tax info' section and answer the 'Have you filed a state tax return before?' question with 'Yes'. Another question will then pop up: "Did you have any overpayment listed on your 2023 state tax return?". Here, you will have to enter the State refund you received which is listed in your 1099-G form, box 2.
NOTE: If your Form 1099-G is added on Step 3 Let's talk money, sub-step Income documents that may prevent you from e-filing your Federal tax return. If that's the case, you can consider reporting it using the second method. You can check your e-file eligibility here.
