Why are there two different addresses?
The IRS lists a separate street address for private delivery services. Use that street address when you send the return through FedEx, DHL Express, or UPS. Use the postal address for any other delivery service.
What if I send a payment with my return?
The addresses in the table are for a return that does not include a payment. For Form 1040-NR, the IRS gives a different postal address when you enclose a payment: Internal Revenue Service, P.O. Box 1303, Charlotte, NC 28201-1303, USA. Check the instructions in the PDF of your tax return before you mail it.
How can I track my return?
Request a tracking number from your delivery service. The tracking number lets you follow your delivery. Keep the tracking number until the IRS processes your return.
Does this address apply to my state tax return?
No. These addresses are for your federal Form 1040-NR. Your state tax return goes to the state tax office. Follow the mailing instructions in the PDF of your state tax return.
